We got mountain high on Mount Watitic (1,832 feet) on 4/20 in Northern Massachusetts. It’s an easy drive from Boston and great for early-season hiking or when the higher summits have less-than-ideal weather. We did a total of 4 miles and <1000 feet of gain (745 feet). Lots to explore in the area!
It’s been a while, mountains. They’re always calling, but I’ve been sending them to voicemail for a little while. It’s time to remove my temporary away message. It’s time to come back. The thing is, my energy has been lower and the mountains seemed so out of reach. I’ve been caught in city living and […]
New Hampshire’s White Mountains are a magical part of the Northeast. When I moved to Boston in the summer of 2020, I knew the White Mountains would be my new outdoors adventure home. Written October 1, 2021 Seattle may be the home of Starbucks, but Pumpkin Spice Lattes aren’t the only thing brewin’ in the Pacific Northwest in autumn! In the PNW, there is a magical part of fall that does not seem to have an equivalent anywhere else in the world. Here, the all-too-brief season of the […]
Written August 2021 Altitude sickness, or Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), is no joke. It’s especially not a joke if it progresses to High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) or a High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE). AMS is common and unpleasant. HAPE and HACE are uncommon and life threatening. Back in 2011, I thought it would be […]
I delight in sharing outdoor experiences with people and introducing others to new outdoor activities. I don’t believe we are ever too old to try something new or discover a new hobby/passion. When I found out my cousin was interested in backpacking, I knew we needed to plan a trip! Having gone to the White […]
